The original is currently in the Berlin collection of antiquities, and is considered the most important work of early Hellenistic art. It was excavated around 1500 on the island of Rhodes and over the centuries was housed in the most important locations in Europe, such as the Palace of Whitehall in London, Castle Veaux - le Viconte and the Louvre in Paris, Sanssouci in Potsdam, as well as Palais Lichtenstein and the Belvedere in Vienna.
