Pair of very large portal lions,
After the Italian Gothic style, 1st quarter of the 20th century. Fully moulded cast stone lions, ca. 117 x 175 x 6 cm. Some ageing and weathering. (PZ)
Provenance: From the collection of the furniture manufacturer and patron Max Schmidt (1861-1935) (company name today Friedrich Otto Schmidt)
A pair to these lions were to be found until recently at the entrance of Pötzleinsdorf castle. Max Schmidt was the owner of Pötzleinsdorf castle and bequeathed it to the municipality of Vienna in 1934.
