type 1889 variant, 81 cm single-edged blade, fullered on both sides, manufacturer "Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co Solingen', gilt basket with openwork floral decoration and imperial double-headed eagle, ferrule, full backpiece with foliate decoration, the grip with fishskin and gilt twistwire wrap, nickel-plated steel scabbard with gilt smooth fittings with grooves, attached sword knot, the band made of imperial-yellow silk with triple black striation, the tassel head embroidered with the initials 'FJI' and double-headed eagle. the tassel with open fringes, the nickel plating lacking and rusted in areas, the gilding rubbed in areas, (He)

Note: The decor on the basket of the famous M1889 sabre is slightly different, especially at the opening for the tang, and is semi-circular, rather than pointed in the area of the blade edge, thus making the two-headed eagle closer to the blade. Enclosed is a copy of a contemporary photo, showing the wearer in uniform with this sword, inscribed on the reverse 'Siebenbürgen im Jahre 1912',
