India, c. 210 x 140 cm, about 1800 to 1820, only few specimens from the glorious Mughal Dynasty in India still exist today and are preserved in the leading museums, in 1858 the nominal reign of the Great Mughal came to an end, the present carpet already originates from the later epoch and with its palmette and sickle leaves already displays Persian influence, still remaining is the exceptional main border with images depicting the zodiac, enclosed in cartouches and oval medallions, several unidentified inscriptions, in good condition with partly low pile and some minor repairs in keeping with the age, mounted entirely on supporting linen with visible passe-partout.
