After finishing medical school, Helbich worked in Jablunkov in Moravia for three years, where he became friends with Josef Sudek and later his informal student being influenced by his advice and criticism.
Petr Helbich worked as a photographer for more than 50 years and is considered one of the foremost amateur photographers in Czechia.
