Thailand, U-Thong/early Ayutthaya style, 15th/16th century
Hollow cast bronze. Seated in paryankasana on a shaped throne, his right hand making the ‘earth witness’ gesture, his left resting in his lap, dressed in the garb of an ascetic; with meditative facial expression, elongated ear lobes, small curls and flame above the ushnisha. Small repair to stomach. Traces of gilding and corrosion. Height: 49.5 cm. (BA)
