silver, parcel-gilt, of round form, the body with open-work Roman trophy arms, 3 medallions with heads in profile, with a depiction of Dido, Oritia and Palamedes, the hinged lid with ball finial, the hinged lid applied with 3 medallions, small part lost, height: 16,5 cm, weight: 706 g, maker’s mark Israel Theloth (Seling 1593), Augsburg hallmark 1679-1683, (Lu)
The profiles depict Palamedes, a hero from the Argolis, considered the cleverest among men, the Phoenician princess Dido, as well as Oritia, Queen of the Amazons.
