The author of the image that the engraving is based on, Christ’s Removal From the Cross, is Daniele de Volterra. The original is an extensive fresco in the Orsini Chapel in the Roman Church of Santa Trinita dei Monti dating from 1541. This motif was engraved in glass for the first time in North Bohemian by Dominik Biemann in 1829 and the same motif was also used by Franz Hansel for example.
