A curious half-mask with a thick, large nose and striking incisors. Carved from hard, light-coloured wood and painted light brown, black, red and white on the front. The viewing-slits for the wearer of the mask are incorporated into the lower rims of the eyes.
The rear is unpainted and shows a good, shiny usage patina at the correct spots. Slight scuffing on the nose. Otherwise no damage. This half mask probably depicts a good-natured demon or trickster.
First half of the 20th century; H: 17 cm, W: 15 cm. (ME)
