Mixed lot (3 items): Three silver objects from India (Arabia, East Africa), Thailand and Burma. - Arte Tribale

1: India (Arabia, East Africa): A hollowed silver bangle with a high middle ridge. Richly decorated on the external side with soldered silver wire bands and ornamental repeats of silver plates. The inside is smooth. Two hemispherical ends are soldered together with a knopped ring and connected by means of a rhomb-shaped cover plate made of silver (with floral engraving). An piece with old traces of usage and minor age-related damage. DM: 13 cm (on the outside); 6.5 cm (on the inside).
This type of bangle is widespread along the old route of the dhow sea trade in the Indian Ocean: on the western coast of India (Gujarat), in South Arabia (Oman, Yemen) and along the costs of East Africa. It is likely that this bracelet type was originally produced in South Arabia.
2: Thailand (or Burma): A silver-belt, consisting of many similar, vertical units, held together in a movable structure by means of small silver rings.
Each of the vertical units consists of four rosettes made of silver rings (each rose is made up of four rings), with a soldered, hollow hemisphere in the middle. The fastening of the silver belt is a rectangular push-in clasp made of two sliding plates. Trimmed with hinged strips with a décor of floral and leafy tendrils on both sides. The buckle consists of a frame with linear patterns and the inner cast field features a mythological animal, with a Makara head, four legs and long tails.
Overall a silver jewel with good usage patina. L: 93 cm; W: 5 cm; the buckle: 5,2 cm x 10 cm.
3: Burma: A semicircular silver box with lid and hinge. Both the lid and the sides are adorned with embossed décor: the lid features knop bands and engraving, the sides of the box are divided into fields with a décor of leaf and flower motifs with fine engraving. The smooth underside of the box is engraved: with a four-legged animal (a dog?) surmounted by the number ‘6’ in Burmese script. Silver lidded boxes, such as the present one, were formerly used in Burma for storing utensils for chewing betel (areca nuts, betel leaves, etc.). Dimensions: 4 cm x 9 cm x 5 cm.
All 3 objects are entirely made of quality silver:
Between the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. (ME)

Provenance: Austrian Private Collection.
