A large, round and tall bowl made of silver (hallmarked!). The upper margin features a cast silver rim decorated with wave and knop motifs.
The external side is densely engraved by hand with eight figural medallions, depicting typical Persian motifs of dance, music-making, hunting, conversation and work scenes. Separated by medallions of leafy tendrils. Adorned by an engraved ornamental stripe above and one below. The inside of the bowl is polished and shiny. On the underside a master’s hallmark (sword and lion). The bowl comes with a large, round flat saucer, which is also made of pure silver. The outer rim shows the same band of wave and knop patterns as the bowl. The upper front features a central round, engraved scene with eight bearded Persian scholars discussing books. One of them smokes a water pipe.
The scene is surrounded by decorative bands and medallions of leafy tendrils. The smooth underside of the saucer shows three hallmarks.
