Persia (Iran): A Safavid silver bowl with rich, polychrome enamel décor. About 1700.
A round bowl on a low, round foot. Made entirely of quality embossed and engraved silver. With elaborate décor on the entire upper front and as an all-round band on the foot; consisting of red, yellow, light blue and green enamel, in the form of a green parrot, polychrome floral and leafy tendrils in variegated, interlacing forms.
An extremely beautiful object in the typical execution of the era of the Persian Safavid Dynasty (1501-1722). In perfect condition, no damage.
About 1700. H: 3 cm, diameter: 19 cm (upper margin), 6.5 cm (foot).
Provenance: From the collection of the cabinet of curiosities of the Duke of Saxony-Meiningen, Prince Friedrich-Ernst of Saxony Meiningen, on Schloss Haimhausen, Germany. A copy of the receipt is enclosed. Currently: German Private Collection. (ME)
