Mixed lot (2 items): Kenya and Mali, Turkana and Dogon: A wristknife of the Turkana and an amulet pendant of the Dogon. - Arte Tribale

1: A round knife worn on the wrist (hence the term ‘wristknife’) by the men of the Turkana tribe, in northwestern Kenya. A wide, round, forged iron blade with a sharp external side, trimmed with leather bands on the outer and inner edges for the wearer’s protection. A piece with good, old usage patina. No damage. DM: between 12 cm and 13.5 cm (outside).
2: An amulet pendant from a horse harness of the Dogon in Mali. Made of yellow cast-alloy (brass), executed with ‘waste mould’ casting. With a round, highly stylised face (the ‘tutelary spirit’) and two ‘horns’. The harness hung by these ‘horns’ on the forehead of the horse. A piece with heavy traces of usage to the ‘horns’, after hanging on a harness for many years. H: 7 cm. Both objects: First half of the 20th century or earlier. (ME)
