For a description of the discovery of the Komaland figures see cat. no. 3.
1: A typical Komaland figure, female. With the typical concavity at the top of the head, with closed mouth, breasts, a necklace with pendant, belt and a bangle on the right hand. Some pieces broken off on left arm and in the lower section. H: 21 cm.
2: A Komaland figure, male. With a cap or helmet on the head (rare!). With open mouth and short ‘stumpy arms’ projecting on either side. Adorned with a simple necklace and a belt. Minor age damage and loss to the knee area. A rare type! H: 24.5 cm.
3: A Komaland figure. Type: a so-called ‘plug-head’. With large, typically shaped head with characteristically concave ‘bowl’ in the upper section, outlined eyes and open mouth. In these frequent ‘plug-heads’ the neck always ends in a pointed cone. Their use and meaning are still unknown. H: c. 14 cm.
All three Komaland items are made of baked reddish clay. Age: 13th-18th centuries. (ME)
