The first time I met Maria Bussmann was here at the school of sculpture approximately ten years ago. She showed me a couple of sculptural works, the syntax of which seemed really interesting to me. They were expressive attempts in a micro subject area, consisting of a combination of very simple types of material and produced with unusual material qualities. For instance, they included a small bed for a mouse, with just about the right size for an apartment mouse, based on our human idea of what a bed must look like, but made of thin, bent brass tubes. The duvet for the mouse consisted of sewn-in paper downs. The mouse bed was surpassed by a football stadium executed with normal soldering techniques. The stadium was subsequently surpassed by a competitive swimming pool with four lanes...
