(Hanover 1930-1998 Basel) Small sunset, multiple, sausage on blue and white paper in a plastic bag, signed, dated Dieter Roth '88, unlimited edition, produced by R. Rieser, Cologne, published by D. Rot, Düsseldorf, 42 x 30 cm, framed, Roth/Mayer 96, (PP)
Provenance:
Private Collection, Austria
The change of organic material as a result of decay, mould and moth damage plays an important role in this artist’s work, which was influenced by the Fluxus movement. Dieter Roth created artworks that were subject to a process of gradual change and decay – among them are hermetically sealed mouldy objects, such as the present one. Perishable materials were used in order to integrate a temporal dimension into Roth’s art and make its progression visible. He heralded a new understanding of materials by using substances that were traditionally alien to art, such as food.
