Aubusson (France), c. 260 x 331 cm, first half of the 18th century. Under state control, 18th-century French tapestries experienced a unique efflorescence, designs followed the models created by famous painters according to Rococo taste, the present carpet derives from a series centred on Pegasus; very fine wool and silk tapestry depicting the muses grouped under a canopy with Pegasus (winged horse) and Perseus, surrounded by a fountain, gardens, a creek and architectural elements, this piece is wholly preserved and in good condition despite its considerable age, some minor warp cracks can be easily sewn, complete and original foliate frame pattern and outer blue galloon, entirely secured with supporting linen on the back.
