Although in Turkey it was not unusual to produce carpets consisting of two panels, today it is no longer possible to determine whether the present item lost its second half or is a rare divan carpet instead; it is certain, however, that the present early specimen is by no means a fragment, for the right side border displays an original shirazi; on the grounds of its central field with white-ground interlaced stars and hand shapes, the present carpet must be dated to the early 18th century; superb wool quality and colour condition, slight repairs and slight traces of usage, brown corroded, both ends with preserved weaving finish, a very similar specimen was published in the exhibition catalogue of the Vienna ICOC in 1986 (see reference in the Literature below).
