A comparable painting by Grund with the same subject is in the collection of the Strahov monastery near Prague (Inv. No. O 578), along with the matching Rebecca and Eliezer at the well (Nationalgalerie, Prague). The present painting probably also has a matching piece. On the reverse of the painting is a typed copy of a report by Walther Bernt. Norbert Grund’s œuvre was influenced by painters such as Franz de Paula Ferg, but also by David Teniers II. and Antoine Watteau. In his later years he cultivated a kind of Rococo painting influenced by contemporary Venetian artists.
