Wilhelm Streckfuß began his artistic education as a pupil of F. W. Herbig at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin. He continued his training with Carl Sohn in Düsseldorf, completing his studies in Rome between 1843 and 1844. Returning to Berlin in 1844, he turned his focus to landscape painting. As the author of a textbook on perspective, he taught at a variety of institutions until his death, including the Berlin Academy.
