Johann Franz Schwanthaler (1683 – 1762 Ried) was master of the Ried sculpture workshop, along with his father Thomas Schwanthaler, from whom he took it over in 1711 and his son Johann Peter Schwanthaler d.Ä., to whom he transferred it in 1759. His works include the tabernacle and chancel in Waldzell (1721), works in Hohenzell (tabernacle figure, Saint George and Saint Michael), side altars in Lohnsburg and the high altar in Lengau (1755).
