Clock with turning numeral rings set around a vase, with lid and cover, below which is the clockwork, to the handles sculptural laurel leaf festoons and wreaths, the clock stands on a fluted column and a square plinth, the foot entwined with laurel wreaths, to the obverse ‘the Three Graces’ with floral garlands, base 4 reserves in relief with cupids playing, rectangular ‘bronze doré’ base, height 46 cm, length 22.5 cm, width 18 cm, glass lintel 52.5 x 23 x 28 cm, Sèvres, France circa 1860, after a model by Etienne Maurice Falconet (Ru)
The original was carved in white marble by Etienne Maurice Falconet circa 1770 and can be found in the Louvre Museum, Paris. Maurice Etienne Falconet, Paris 1.12.1716–24.1.1791 Paris, French sculptor, important exponent of French Rococo sculpture, which links Classical formality with charm and elegance.
From 1757–1766 he was the artistic director of the Porcelain Manufactory in Sèvres, and subsequently in St Petersburg until 1780;
