The Meissen table service with the ‘red dragon’ was produced for the Saxon court of August I between 1729 and 1735. It was very much influenced by Oriental design. The model for the service was a Japanese plate with Kakiemon painting from the Royal Collection. This décor, also later termed the ‘Red Court Dragon’, was reserved exclusively for the porcelain of the Saxon court until 1918.
