Freestanding chest of drawers,
Louis XV style, from the 19th century, stamped MOREAU EBENISTE. Oak, veneered in rosewood and tulipwood, of oval form, with metal tracks bearing the two long drawers, using a latching mechanism, with “Chinoiserie” decoration on two of the “sans traverse” drawer fronts, the other two ends each with two doors, with dyed floral marquetry panels, rich bronze mounts, including some in the form of “Espagnolettes” (female heads) and with a high quality onyx top. 92 x 115 x 76 cm. Some ageing and traces of wear. (DOC)
The model to this piece may be a chest of drawers in the so-called ‘Yellow salon’ in Castle Schönbrunn in Vienna. The present chest of drawers is identical both in his formal qualities and in terms of the marquetry and bronzes. Furthermore, the latching mechanism of both chests of drawers is the same.
