Northern Indian, c. 11th century, schist. To the apex of a flaming aureole sits the sun god, Surya in padmasana, holding two lotus flowers, within a shrine with two columns surmounted by a pointed arch. To either side of the shrine, one or two divinities in flight holding lotus stems. Traces of red paint, Wdth: 26.5 cm; height: c. 16 cm; depth: 4.5 cm. (BA)
