Ottoman silk cloth,
Bursa or Istanbul, Turkey, c. 63 x 63 cm (incl. frame c. 75 x 75 cm), mid-17th century, the brocade with natural colour foundation cotton contains warp threads and silk wefts, pattern with cut-open silk velvet and silver threads with silk core; a very similar, yet fully preserved piece (c. 490 x 268 cm) with star and cross pattern is preserved at the Detroit Institute of Arts; the present textile is trimmed on the side and at the bottom and preserved only as a fragment, some open warp slits, mounted on linen and mounted on wooden frame.
