Sauj Bulagh gallery, - Tappeti orientali, tessuti, arazzi

North Persia (Iran), c. 474 x 99 cm, second half of the 19th century, the Sauj Bulagh carpets from Kurdistan are known for their superb colours and valuable wool quality, the present specimen is in runner format, which is rather rare to find, and is among one of the stand out pieces of this group, in bright colours on a deep blue ground, with ten large-format, flowery eagle motifs, archaic border decoration with reciprocal secondary frames, with rare saffron yellow and aubergine, now consistently deep pile with some slightly oxidised colours, all ends complete and original, side edges rebound, all sides secured on the back with linen band, collector’s carpet.
