1: A long, light-coloured cassowary bone dagger, with good, old, reddish-brown patina on the upper end of the handle.
2: A small cassowary bone dagger with consistent red brown patina. With multiple piercing at the upper end of the handle, for a decorative hanging made of strings of light grey seed capsules and cassowary feathers (hanging now lost).
3: A cassowary bone dagger with visibly very old bone. The upper section of the hilt is cloaked with wickerwork of twisted vegetable cords. Complete with carrying cord. It comes with a matching sheath made of the same wickerwork as the hilt.
All 3 objects display good, old usage patina. No damage. Between c. 1900 and the first third of the 20th century; L: 33 cm, 28.5 cm, 29 cm. (ME) ASA
Provenance: Acquired by the consignor on the Dairam River, in the hinterland of the Asmat territory on the southern coast of New Guinea. Austrian private collection.
