New Guinea, Highlands: a stone axe.
A stone axe (a work axe, type: adze), with a green, short, thick, cut and polished stone blade and knee-shaft hafting, attached with strong wickerwork made of yellow rattan strips. A old piece, with very good usage patina (see the handle section). In excellent condition, no damage. First third of the 20th century; H 57 cm, W: 35 cm (upper section, with blade). (ME)
