Mixed lot (2 items), Indonesia, Java: a kris dagger and a casket for cockfight blades.
1: A typical Javanese kris dagger with straight, old pamor blade. Vertical inscriptions are inserted along the middle ridge of the blade on either side (rare!). The hilt consists of hard, brown wood in typical Javanese shape, with two demon faces. The base of the hilt (‘selut’) is covered in shiny silver alloy, the ring between the blade and hilt (‘mendak’) is made of cast brass. Without scabbard. A minor crack on the hilt. Between the 19th and the early 20th centuries; L: 45 cm.
2: A casket for storing cockfight blades. From Java or Bali. Made of wood, as an anthropomorphic Wayang figure, carved in two halves and painted. The two halves open with wire hinges. Inside the casket, two pointed, sharp blades are inserted in a wooden bridge. These blades are tied to the legs of fighting roosters as ‘spurs’ before the fight.
First half of the 20th century; L: 21.5 cm, W: c. 7 cm (wooden casket);
