A magnificently designed Persian battleaxe made of iron. With a crescent-shaped blade, which displays a figural medallion displays on both sides, engraved and etched. The medallions display a ruler surrounded by birds and leafy tendrils. Additionally, ribbons of writing in Arabic script. On the backside of the blade is the head of a dragon, with its jaw wide open. On the finely engraved dragon head and on the blade, noticeable remnants of damascened gilding are visible. In bands and surfaces. Above sits a tetragonal iron spike. The long, hollowed shaft with hemispheric finial also displays rich, all-round, engraved line patterns and small remnants of gilding. A magnificent, old piece. No damage. 18th/19th century; L: 78 cm, W: 20 cm. (ME)
