Two swords of the Tuareg, called ‘takouba’, with long, locally forged iron blades. The blades bear grooved and crescent-shaped decorations, with forger’s marks. One of the two blades displays an old original repair (forged). The hilts, made of metal (iron, brass), are in a typical shape and partly covered in black leather. The sheaths are made of leather, one red-brown, the other dyed black, bear embossed patterns as decorations and on the lower ends each has a ‘shoe’ made of cut and decorated brass. Both items with leather loops and fabric carrying straps. Between 1900 and the first third of the 20th century; L: 87 cm and 92 cm. (ME)
