A musical instrument, called ‘sanza’, which one ‘plays’ by plucking the ends of the 14 iron ‘tongues’ with the thumbs. These ‘tongues’ are attached to a metal frame atop a board. The board, made of hard wood and coloured in brown, is decorated on the front and back, each with a typical, rhomb-shaped Chokwe face in openwork relief. In addition, linear hatchings and borders on both sides. A beautiful work with good patina. No damage. First half of the 20th century; dimensions: 27 cm x 26.5 cm. (ME)
