Bambara (or Bamana), Mali: A door lock with head and cross-bar.
A door lock of the Bambara, for a house or a millet granary. Made of wood, with a beautiful head displaying a typical female hairstyle. The lancet-shaped ‘body’ is decorated with fine, geometric line patterns. The present piece displays excellent, old usage patina. No damage. First half of the 20th century; H: 39 cm, W: 44 cm (bar).
