oil on canvas, 102.5 x 128 cm, framed
Provenance:
Austrian Private Collection
The scene shows the Annunciation to the Virgin in a realistically designed interior in keeping with the tradition of the great Flemish masters of the 15th century. The present painting uses motifs derived from Hans Memling (cf. his Annunciation from the Robert Lehman Collection, currently Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York) or Rogier van der Weyden (cf. the Annunciation of the St. Columba Altarpiece in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich).
