We are grateful to Dr. Gerda Wendermann for her assistance in cataloguing this work.
Dr. Wendermann, who made an initial assessment of the painting on the basis of a photo, indicates that the style is typical of Paul Baum (creating form with colour) as is the choice of motif, the so-called Webicht, discovered by Karl Buchholz in the 1870s and adopted by several representatives of the Weimar School. Hitzroth also mentions two paintings very similar in style to the present work (cf: Wolfram Hitzeroth, Paul Baum, Ein Leben als Landschaftsmaler, Dr. Wolfram Hitzeroth, published by Marburg 1988, p. 84, no. F7; p. 85, F.8).
