Southwest Caucasus, c. 210 x 172 cm, first half of the 19th century, this piece represents the rarest type in the pattern group, almost square-shaped, ethnic Kazak with monumental shield motif, classic white S-shaped contour, and large main border with "Turkmen" cartouches, an almost identical carpet published by Eberhart Herrmann is dated 1854/55; deep pile - apart from heavily oxidised and partly untied brown, upper end with folded kilim end, side edges rebound, at the upper end and on the right long side, secured with linen on the back.
