in Iran Blindengasse 5-9 1090 Wien www. iranrelief. org When a severe earthquake shook the Iranian province of Azerbaijan on 12 August 2012, 250 people lost their lives and about 100 not so solidly-built villages were destroyed. Miss Akbari from the village of Varsaghan could complete only half her carpet before becoming one of the victims of the earthquake and losing her home. The Viennese Association for Natural Catastrophes Aid in Iran took care of her case and built her a new house. Miss Akbari ended her carpet with the commemorative inscription, “This carpet could not be completed because of the earthquake on 12 August 2012, Varsagan/Heriz, Masumeh Akbari”. The proceeds of its sale will be donated entirely to Miss Akbari. Heris, Northwest Persia (Iran), c. 290 x 310 cm, manufactured in 2012, only slightly more than half of the piece was completed and the face subsequently provided with an inscription, this coarsely knotted carpet is in unshorn condition with untrimmed warp threads.
