The House of Liechtenstein is one of the oldest noble families in Europe. It is one of the so-called “Apostelgeschlechtern“ (“Apostolic Families“) of Austria, that is, one of the twelve families that were already established at the time of the Austrian Babenbergs.
br>A bearer of this name, Hugo von Liechtenstein, was first mentioned in 1136. Countless family members have adorned the highest offices of state in Austria, of which probably the best known were Hans Adam I (1662–1712), Imperial advisor and constructor of both the Vienna Palais, and Field Marshal Johann Josef I (1770–1836)
