Dachi blade mounted a katana blade
Japan, late 17th/early 18th century
Very probably changed into a katana in the 19th century for reasons of Japanese fashion, by shortening the tang and the mounting. Steel blade in shinogi zukuri, lori mune, ogissaki, boshi kaeri, hamon suguha kochoji midare, hada itame, nagako kiri, 1 mekugiana, signature: “Hizen Kuni Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tadayoshi”. Scabbard with black lacquer relief, iron tsuba and fuchikahira, iroe takazogan in gold on shibuichi, dragon menuki. In the 19th or in the early 20th century the blade was polished in Japan. Nagasa: 66 cm, total length: 93 cm. (BA)
