China, late Qing dynasty.
Hanging scroll with a depiction of deities or representatives of different philosophies and religions in China. T. u. F. a. P. In a landscape sits enthroned in the upper central position the Jade Emperor, to the left on a rock Laozi, Buddha and Confucius (Kongzi), further below the three-faced Buddhist goddess Marici, to her right the deified Laozi and to the far right the Three Officials, Sanguan. At the centre of the painting is Guanyin with the young pilgrim Shancaitongzi (Suddhana), further to the right the Daoist god Zhenwu with his emblem, the tortoise. To the lower left of Guanyin are the three star deities Fu, Lu and Shou, representing Happiness, Prosperity and Longevity. A few foxing spots, damaged, restored and re-mounted. 132 x 73 cm. (BA)

Restored and remounted. With some minor tears and creases to the painting (not to the mounting), soiled at some places and with some foxing.
