Mixed lot (7 items): Ornaments of the Tuareg and Djerma; from the Sahara region in South Algeria, Niger, Mali, South Morocco. - Tribal Art

1: An amulet box (‘tcherot’) made of silver, with three levels, engraved with typical Tuareg décor. With colourful, plaited carrying cord. Dimensions: 7 cm x 8 cm, H: 2.5 cm.
2: 4 Tuareg crosses. Pendants made of silver, cast in typical forms, engraved and hallmarked: two in the form of the ‘Agadez cross’, one in openwork ‘Barchekeia shape’ (with 6 ‘wings’ and 5 points) and one ‘Zinder cross’ with a large hole, edge with sawed finish and one point in the upper and lower sections.
These silver crosses were worn in different forms as ornaments, amulets and valuable objects around the neck. L: von 6 cm bis 8.2 cm. Also a silver spoon, cast, chased, engraved and hallmarked with typical Tuareg patterns. L: 12.3 cm.
3: A so-called ‘Djerma bracelet’. A heavy foot bracelet of the Djerma (Niger). Made of copper, with polyhedron ends. Engraved and hallmarked with typical, geometrical patterns on the outside. These foot bracelets are used as ornaments and valuable objects among the Djerma (‘primitive money’). DM: 10 cm x 11 cm. All ornamental objects: first half of the 20th century. (ME)
