Morocco: a pair of robe fibulae, connected with chains and 3 spheres. Entirely made of silver, enamel and glass stones. - Tribal Art

A pair of old fibulae with which female robes are fastened on the shoulders. The flat, triangular silver fibula plates are cut, with engraved and pierced decoration of dots, lines and surfaces. The plates as well as the fastening elements are embellished with soldered decoration made of silver with hemispheres and enamel. Both fibulae are connected with a four-piece chain made of 3 strands of plaited silver threads. This chain is interrupted by 3 hollow spheres made of silver thread. The ends of the chain and the round bows of the clasp are decorated with red and blue glass stones. The colour combination of yellow and green enamel in the decoration indicates that these fibulae were manufactured in the Moroccan town of Tiznit. L: 107 cm (in total). 19th century, early 20th century. (ME)
