An ancestor figurer of the Nyamwezi from West Tanzania. Made of hard, heavy wood. Its round head, with 'coffee bean eyes', and its torso are turned slightly to the right, with protruding shoulders as well as bent arms, hands and legs. The body is red brown, the hair, lower leg and feet are dyed black. With its legs apart and very ‘lively’, this figure depicts an ancestor of the Nyamwezi clan. With old patina and minor age damage (minor tears and dents). Between the beginning and first half of the 20th century; H: 55 cm. (ME)
