Ethiopia: An old bible with leather sleeve.
A bible of the Ethiopian Christian Church, handwritten on parchment (animal skin). Meticulously executed with two columns per page, in Ethiopian script, black and red, as well as in the Ethiopian sacred language 'Geez'. With four colourful drawings: Trinity, Maria and child, a crucifixion scene and a praying Christ. The cover is decorated with red-dyed leather and patterns. The sleeve consists of thick, natural coloured cowhide. With old usage patina. The carrying strap missing. Between the 19th century and the first third of the 20th century; dimensions: 12.5 cm x 9 cm x 4 cm (the bible). (ME)
