Yoruba, Nigeria: ‘Ibeji’ twin figure, female, style: ‘Egba’.
An ‘Ibeji figure’, carved for a dead female twin (for a more detailed explanation see cat. no. 51). A very finely manufactured piece in rare Egba style. Made of brown, dark coloured wood. With a hairstyle of lines in relief and an interesting part in plaited pattern at the back of the head. With a necklace of long, red glass pearls and remains of rubbed-in powdered redwood. First half of the 20th century; H: 26 cm. (ME)
