Italy, c. 230 x 30 cm, 19th century, silk embroidery on a beige silk ground backed with raw silk fabric as support, magnificent stole with two images of saints and written characters, “VS” and “SS” respectively at the ends, and the symbol “XP” repeated twice around the centre of the aureole, i.e. the Greek letters Chi and Rho, signifying Christianity or Christ, excellent condition with vivid colours and with no signs of wear.
