A rare skid-base sofa/lounge sofa, designed by Arnold Bode c. 1950,
for Federholz-Gesellschaft OHG, Kassel, Germany, chromium plated flat steel, upholstered and covered with blue shaggy suede, height approx. 72 cm, width approx. 195 cm, depth approx. 75 cm, height of seat approx. 40 cm. (MHA)
The frame borrows from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona chair in terms of the crossed and bent steel legs. However, deviating from Mies van der Rohe’s design in terms of dimensions and radius, the pairs of skids do not intersect here. Arnold Bode was active primarily as an interior and product designer during the 1950s. In 1955 he founded the documenta in Kassel together with Werner Haftmann and functioned as its artistic director until 1968.
