![Johann Georg von Dillis - Disegni e stampe fino al 1900, acquarelli e miniature Johann Georg von Dillis - Disegni e stampe fino al 1900, acquarelli e miniature](/fileadmin/lot-images/38N121108/normal/johann-georg-von-dillis-4541491.jpg)
(Grüngiebing 1759–1841 Munich) A view of the Isar from the Praterinsel in Munich, dated “am 28. Sept. 1824.”, black and white chalk, on blue laid paper, 23 x 31 cm, mounted, framed, (Sch)
Provenance: Private collection, Germany.
In his late work from c. 1820 onwards Dillis preferably made drawings on colored papers which resulted in grisaille-like sheets. Their appeal lies in the combination of colored prepared paper, the choice of paper texture and the color of the means of drawing. In the present drawing Dillis rendered a motif of the Munich river banks at evening mood. The artist stood on todays Maximiliansbridge on the Praterinsel. A bridge is leading over the left Isar river arm to the town on the west bank, the silhouettes of the towers of St. Peter’s and of Heiliggeist church on Viktualienmarkt are emerging in the background.
Literature: For comparable studies by Dillis see: Christoph Heilmann (Ed.), Johann Georg von Dillis 1759–1841: landscape und Menschenbild, Exh. cat. Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen Munich, Neue Pinakothek, November 29, 1991 –Februar 9, 1992, pp. 110–112, Cat. 26, 27.
