Jakob Kaschauer was active as a painter and sculptor in Vienna before 1463. Documented for the first time in 1429, he completed an altarpiece, no longer extant, for the Michaela Church in Vienna in 1449. In 1443, he executed the high altarpiece for the cathedral in Freising, some parts of which survive. Otherwise, he worked for the cathedral workshop at St Stephan in Vienna.
